Are you thinking of riding your bike with your infant? Before you strap on a helmet...
Talk to your healthcare provider first. The Bike Helmet Safety Institute recommends that children under the age of 12 months not be carried on bicycle child seats, trailers, or sidecars
- Neck development of most babies under the age of 1 year cannot support the weight of the helmet which can lead overstressing the neck vertebrae.
- Another serious consideration is the possibility of “shaken baby syndrome” that can occur if the bike is ridden on rough, bumpy surfaces for an extended period of time.
